Alice Elgie

I’m a writer, wanderer and devoted yoginī committed to living an authentic life centred around slowness and simplicity; a life that allows for time to breathe into precious moments.

Since childhood I have felt drawn to be in nature, and to the sojourns that allow for that experience. As a ten-year-old I would often journey from one estate to the next on tree-climbing expeditions and by my late teens—inspired by adventurers such as Laurie Lee—sought to seek out a way to live far from the constraints of my very ordinary 9 to 5 city existence.

In the thirty + years since I have trailed across Europe by train, foot and van, around the world as researcher for a travel guide, and in 2008—following a brief period of settledom—I sold up to live permanently on the move with my baby daughter and husband. This adventure led to our daughter’s entire childhood being lived between campervans, yurts, narrowboats, cottages and caravans as we wandered from the mountains of Spain to the Highlands of Scotland (and everywhere in-between), all whilst home educating.

Now nineteen and embarking on her own independent journey, I continue to live a transient life alongside my husband. Currently we split time between a narrowboat on the canals of England and our tiny self-build campervan ‘Shanti’, which takes us to many different stopping places.

As a dedicated yoginī my daily practices encourage me to reflect deeply, challenging me to seek out my truest path. Consequently I am fascinated by the human condition and write honest, heartfelt words about mine—and others—experiences, with the hope of discovering deeper connection in a world that feels sometimes jarred by modernity.

You'll generally find me practicing and teaching yoga, singing with my harmonium, taking long walks with my family, sitting in front of my 1960s typewriter, or staring out of my campervan passenger window with a fountain pen and paper balanced on my lap.

I look forward to connecting with you!

With love, Alice 🙏🏻
